Trying to hook up a Kenwood KSC-WD250 subw. but do not have The Remote Control unit.How can I get it to work?

Kenwood states that I need the remote control unit in order to control the volume of the sub and recommended either buying that ($90+ too expensive) or getting their shop manual and trying to come up with a circuit to trick the unit into working. Any ideas are appreciated. I am pretty handy with electronics…

I was going to say try ebay but i do not see any of just the remote. If you are good with it i would try to find something to let you know how to do the circuit thing. sounds like your best bet.
